An Outback Wedding

Ok yes, I said these next posts would come quick & fast but my computer broke! Well, to be more specific, my photo software cracked it and I thought what’s a post without photos? Especially about a wedding! But anyway here you go…

We arrived at Mt Isa on Easter Saturday to warm hugs from the Bride-to-be, Bec. Her other half, Mick was out & about as usual fixing things and generally organising people for the big day, which would be Wednesday. Both Bec & Mick’s families were here already, and what friendly welcoming people! We fitted in immediately and had a ball. Picked up Sam & Ned from the airport on Sunday, and set about relaxing in the sun for a few days. It’s hard work, but someone’s gotta do it.

Bec’s hens night was an absolute blast! Organised by her little sister & Mick’s sister there was a lot of laughs. The boys went out and hit the booze, surprise surprise. Mick definitely looked a little worse for wear the next day. Thankfully they had the hens/bucks two nights before the wedding so everyone was fresh as a daisy for the main event.

Wednesday rolled around, and the place was buzzing with activity. From organising the male half of the bridal party & ironing their shirts (payment in cold black cans, that’s good enough for me), to setting up tables & centrepieces, roasting a full pig for dinner and panicking when the bain-maries kept tripping the power, protecting the cake from the fresh meat hanging in the cool room, and hoping the other cool room got cold enough for the salad… ok, so most were actually more worried about the drinks, but still.

Everything of course went off without a hitch. We won’t count the last-minute panic of losing the RINGS! Just as the bride landed (only out here can you get flown in to your wedding by chopper) Mick’s sister saved the day & a relieved best man put the precious little box in his pocket. An absolutely stunning bride, the nervous but proud groom, and a gorgeous backdrop out on the station made for a terrific and happy day.

Naturally Trav was roped in to catering! Mick had organised two caterers so he told Trav: “It’s all good, they know what they’re doing. Can you just give them a bit of a hand.” Later it was revealed that he had told the caterers: “We’ve got a chef on board, he knows what he’s doing. Can you just give him a bit of a hand”! Mick actually ended up prepping the pig himself, a couple of aunties were in charge of salads, and of course it all worked out.

The food was delicious (my opinion might be a bit biased), the DJ was great, and plenty of beer & rum kept everyone at the top of their game all night for an awesome party. Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Granshaw!
